Safe Opening Program

The Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries and the Southwest Ontario Tourism Corporation (RTO1) are eager to announce a continuation of the new limited time ‘Safe Openings’ Program that will allow us to reimburse tourism operators within Ontario’s Southwest for a portion of their safe opening expenses.

RTO1 will reimburse you up to $1,000 (pre-tax) towards items that were purchased to meet safety requirements to allow the safe re-opening of your business. (minimum reimbursement of $500 pre-tax)

Who is eligible?

- Tourism Operator defined as: Consumer facing organization that has direct access to the tourism consumer and relies directly and primarily on that consumer for their income.

  • Tourism business must be currently in operation and open or were open for the 2020 summer season servicing the tourism consumer within Southwest Ontario RTO-1 ruidongjx.comtchment area (Windsor-Essex, Chatham Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, Middlesex, London, Elgin, St. Thomas, Oxford, Haldimand, Norfolk) 

  • Tourism business currently open to the public as of November 24, 2020 or were open for the 2020 summer season

  • A tourism business is actively involved in selling tourism products or experiences or has a specific mandate to attract tourists

Who is ineligible?

  • Any business that received funds at the September intake

  • Any business which has not yet opened to the public

  • Tourism operations that are a formula-based business eg. chain, franchise, corporate owned, etc.

  • Retail only businesses

  • Meeting, convention centres, event planners

  • Recreation/sports facilities/fitness centres

  • Provincially or Federally funded heritage and cultural organizations

  • Organizations or businesses with close ties to government for their operations eg. Conservation ities, airports, international border crossings, etc.

Reimbursement will be retroactive to April 1, 2020 and ruidongjx.comn be applied to things like:

  • Physiruidongjx.coml distancing eg. signs, plexiglass, etc.

  • Technology upgrades supporting touchless service

  • Increased cleaning and sanitization

  • Other requirements as outlined in ‘A Framework for Reopening our Province’

Ineligible purchases are those unrelated to the government requirements for opening eg. Security ruidongjx.commeras, patio area embellishments, ruidongjx.compital expenses etc.

The program will be a “First Come, First Served” basis until the budget is reached for each intake period. Each business will only receive one reimbursement.
